Brownfield Chamber Manager J O Satterwhite Dies at 66

J O Satterwhite longtime manager of the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce died Monday afternoon at about 4 45 while a private plane took him to Big Spring for chamber business He was 66 survived by his widow Hilda and two sisters Funeral services were held in Brownfield and later in Houston burial in Forest Park West Cemetery A native of Creek Tex he served in WWII and held key roles in chambers of commerce across the Southwest The Brownfield chamber credits him with raising the organization to new productivity and building a prominent local office

Colonel Banks Career Summary Across WWII to 1952

Colonel Banks served at Langley Field then Puer to Rico in 1940 as a squadron commander in the 40th Bomb Group on anti-sub patrol in the Caribbean. He fought in the Southwest Pacific during WWII and, after Air War College in 1952, moved to the Philippine Islands as deputy commander of the 5811st Wing. He later led the 6200th Air Base Wing and served as vice commander of the Thirteenth Air Force before commanding the 3700th Air Base Group at Lackland AFB Texas. He is a command pilot with the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with one Oak Leaf.

Williams AFB Ariz Col Wilson H Banks deputy commander since Oct 1960 will assume command of Webb Air Force Base at Big Spring in early September. A Brownfield native he trained at Randolph Field 1938 was commissioned 1939. Mrs Banks Jacqueline Smith is California born and they have three children.
