Parade And Rodeo Set To Kick Off In Terry County

The Terry County Sheriff's Posse sponsors a three day rodeo starting Thursday July 22 through Saturday July 24 with a 4 PM parade. Entry is open to floats and entries, parade assembly at 3 PM in front of Anderson Grain. Rodeo nights start at 8 PM with events and Pony Express performances. Stock by Ray Davis Rodeo Co. of Lubbock. Dances after each show around 9 PM at the County Barn. Queen Anita Bieg and Rodeo Queen Renee Cline named. Admission 2 adults 1 child under 12.

Summer Recreation Committee Convenes in Terry County

Members of the Youth Summer Recreation Program committee met at the Chamber office to discuss a Terry County Community Action program for youths up to 13 with trips, arts and crafts, and educational activities. Two youths will interview as directors. program runs until August 31 and may partner with the juvenile councilor program. A Friday meeting was planned. The board also noted a 25 percent tax rate cut from 36 to 27 cents and announced Wayne Rousseau's resignation with a replacement to be named soon.

Contracting Accelerates For South Plains Cotton

South Plains farmers have stepped up contracting for this year's cotton with most sales in early July. Prices ranged from 45 to 60 cents per pound in crop lots, while other contracts ranged 26 to 38 points over CCC loan rates. United Way of Terry County held a board meeting at the Chamber office naming new officers and directors by acclamation. Officers include Lowe, Knox, Jones, Slack and Williford with outgoing officers listed. new and retiring directors, rotating members, agency representatives, and club spokespeople are named. The financial report shows a balance of 1166.94 on hand as of July 15.
