City Manager Jake Geron notes lower operating costs since Terry County Tax Appraisal District formation. Burnett cites 1983 city share of 21,974 dollars, 6.94 percent of the district budget, down from 56,028 in 1980 when Brownfield ran its own tax office.
The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce met in regular session to discuss the 1982 Harvest Festival set for October with the theme Country Fling and Fiesta. Five clubs will sell tickets starting August 16, and prize options include a cruise, a video recorder, or a hind quarter of beef.
Funeral services for former Brownfield School Superintendent W O Bill Caraway are set for 10 30 a m Monday at the First Christian Church in Brownfield with Rev Jack Garrett officiating. Cremation will follow. Caraway 56 died Friday morning in Methodist Hospital Lubbock after a brief illness. He served 14 years as Brownfield School Superintendent.
Terry County Ag Producer Ronnie Floyd reports on a 2,400 acre Union area farming operation showing crop rotation as key to a possible cotton crop. The field has alternated crops over three years including cotton, maize, wheat, and peas with recent harvests. Floyd notes timing and land treatment affect yields and stresses continued rotation to improve soil health and production prospects.
