Brownfield's Battery B of the 2nd Howitzer Battalion marks the halfway point of a major Fort Polk summer encampment. The 36th Texas Infantry Division, nearly 9,000 strong, trains under new leaders Major Gen. Selden Simpson and Brig. Gen. Ralph Krieger. Battery B, with 3 officers and 50 men, operates 155 mm howitzers and conducts chemical and radiological warfare training alongside standard maneuvers.

City water board reports May usage at 75,009,000 gallons dropping to 68,640,300 gallons in June thanks to above average rainfall. June daily average for 3,313 users was 2,288,100 gallons while May saw 2,419,645 gallons used by 3,206 users.
