Traffic Woes Mark July 4 Holiday in Terry County
Heavy traffic activity flared around Terry County during the July 4 period with a series of crashes. Notable incidents include a parked car collision at Eighth and Main involving Leroy Little and a Latin American youth, a minor crash at Lubbock and Tohoka Road between Raymond Cox and Jack Mason, and a serious pickup car crash at U S 385 and Tate. Brownfield resident Valma Boone sustained bruises but recovered, Wayne Cottrell remained uninjured, and an Odessa driver suffered minor injuries after an on road rollover on U S 62. Bennie Nichols and Douglas Coppock were among others involved in collisions. Coppock damaged a mailbox and street light pole on Lubbock Road.

The city hosts its first Appaloosa horse show on July 15 at The Rodeo Arena starting 11 a.m. That night a buffalo rodeo fills the program at 8 p.m. Crate Snider, secretary of the Terry County Sheriff's Posse, warns to remove unauthorized stock from the posse ground before Sunday and notes the posse accepts no responsibility for stray stock.

Funeral services for 83 year old Wiley M. West of 506 North Fifth are set for 2 30 p m at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev Von Worten and Rev Joe Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Tahoka Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction. West born December 29 1879 in Fannin County was a retired farmer. He lived in Brownfield for 12 years after moving from Tahoka and is survived by his widow three daughters and five sons as well as 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
