Brownfield murder case eyed for reopening

Brownfield Police Chief Roy Rice said the 25 year old murder of Dianna Bryant may be reopened after discussions with Terry County Sheriff Jerry Johnson and a Texas Ranger representative. Officials cite unanswered questions and potential evidence at a pathologist lab and the Medical Examiner in Lubbock.

Firecracker Run kicks off July 4 festivities in Brownfield area

The 36th annual Firecracker Run at Coleman Park starts July 4 with 7:40 a.m. races including 10 miles. Gary Lackey, a Brownfield High School distance champ, won last year. In Wellman, the Fourth celebration begins with a 5:30 p.m. dinner in the community building, a $5 meal to fund expenses, an auction at 6:30 p.m., Lone Prairie Band at 8 p.m. and a fireworks show lasting about 25 minutes.

Brownfield News Sets July Fourth Deadlines

The Brownfield News will be closed Tuesday July 4 for the holiday. Deadlines for the Wednesday July 5 edition move up with all classified and display ads due by noon Monday July 3. The office reopens Wednesday at 8 30 a.m. The staff wishes a safe and happy holiday.

City keeps Brownfield power steady with split transformer

City officials say Brownfield has avoided outages this summer thanks to a second substation transformer and split grid. The highest load so far is about 17.6 megawatts, well below a previous peak of 20 megawatts, with cooling fans and lower heat from distributing load across two transformers. July and August remain, keeping the potential for higher peaks.
