Vandals damage vacant Brownfield home inlinseed oil incident
Vandals entered Mrs E M Ballards vacant 510 North Fifth Brownfield home over the weekend and doused the kitchen with linseed oil then scattered debris. They stole a large truck tarpaulin a pipe wrench a pipe threader and dies while breaking a back door window and leaving shoe prints. Police recovered a bicycle stolen from another resident near Oak Grove school.

Local Driver Tickets After Early Morning Fifth Street Chase
A Brownfield man in a 1954 Mercury was pursued by police at 2:15 a.m. Saturday on Fifth Street and later charged with five traffic violations. J. R. Capps, 44, of 513 North Third, was issued summonses for speeding in a 60 mph zone, running a stop sign, reckless driving, loud muffler, and failure to yield to an audible signal after a chase ending in the 300 block of West Lake. He was booked after being stopped at the police station.

Funeral Held For Former Terry Resident Mrs Tom Howard
Funeral services for Mrs Tom Howard 66 of Clovis were held Saturday in Brownfield Memorial Chapel. A Baptist, she died Thursday at Clovis Memorial Hospital after farming here since 1927 with her husband who died last March. Burial followed at Brownfield Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Wanda Bingham of Woodland Hills California son Ray Howard of Marlin and eight sisters and three additional relatives.

Flores signs four year track scholarship with McMurry
Brownfield standout Frankie Flores, a four year top track performer, signed a four year athletic scholarship with McMurry College in Abilene. Grant Teaff witnessed the letter of intent as Flores chose the smaller college over offers from Abilene Christian Texas Tech Houston Hardin-Simmons and other junior colleges. Flores set a state Class SAA mile record 4 24.0 in Austin and never lost an outdoor mile this season. He plans to major in foreign language and government with a goal of a career in the armed forces. Coach Don Hendley is a McMurry alumnus.
