Early cloud seeding debated at South Plains conference

More than 150 people attended the South Plains Water and Soil Conservation Conference where George Bomar of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission spoke on precipitation enhancement through cloud seeding. He noted February seeding may foretell a stronger spring storm season and discussed drought-driven aims to boost soil moisture in Terry and Yoakum Counties as part of the High Plains Precipitation Enhancement Program.

Sheriff Terry County reports 1998 activity figures

Terry County Sheriff Jerry Johnson presented the 1998 annual report at commissioners court. The department logged 3,118 calls and 103 offenses, made 311 arrests, served 996 civil warrants, and cleared 68 of 104 offenses. Costs to house overflow inmates were $82,496. law center construction will shift costs starting 1999. meals topped 12,409. 9-1-1 activity included 93 emergencies and 63 non emergencies.

Commissioners approve bond for Terry County Justice of the Peace

Terry County Commissioners Court met Monday and approved a $5,000 bond for Frances Hansard the new Justice of the Peace chosen from twelve candidates to replace Johnny Proctor. They received quarterly investment figures from Bobbye Jo Floyd and annual reports from County Clerk Ann Willis and Sheriff Jerry Johnson.
