Terry County Commissioners in regular session vote to share half the cost of relocating the old Hamilton House to a site near Island Hill for a future museum. City Taxpayers Face Deadline for Ad Valorem Taxes

City Tax Assessor-Collector Stanley Miller warns that the January 31 deadline earns a grace day due to Sunday. Taxpayers may pay by Monday February 1 without penalties. after that a 1 percent interest applies to unpaid 1964 taxes. Miller notes 82 percent 1964 collections as of January 21, behind 1963, with hope for 93 percent by deadline. South Plains Tax Assessors meeting in Lamesa included five Brownfield attendees.

Property Taxes Dominate Terry County Revenue

Commerce Department figures show Terry County relies on property taxes for 67.7 percent of local revenue, versus a national average of 69.0 percent and Texas at 55.0 percent. Per capita property tax is $118.65 in Terry County, $83.17 in Texas, and $89.09 nationwide.

Slow Progress in Poll Tax Purchases in Terry County

A county spot check finds only 1,575 poll tax receipts issued, far short of last year’s 4,645. The final reminder warns that January 29 is the last day to purchase 1955 poll taxes before the 31st falls on a Sunday, urging all citizens to act soon.

Kiwanis Hear Arizonan Speak on salesmanship

Frank Patterson of Phoenix Arizona addressed 17 Kiwanis Club members and four guests at the Selets Jane Clubhouse during the weekly dinner meeting. He heads Patterson Customer Relations of Setre Cligis which is scheduled for the latter part of February under Brownfield Chamber of Commerce sponsorship. President Willis Weber led the event with guests Albert Cravey Bill Williamson Darwin Hillyard and Theo Brinson attending.
