Jack Garrett Named Outstanding Man of 1975 in Terry County
Jack Garrett received the Outstanding Citizen of Terry County for 1975 award at the Chamber of Commerce banquet in the High School Dining Commons. Leonard Ellington praised Garrett as a servant to all Terry County residents as the 1974 winner looked on. The 1975 honoree has served as Rotary president, is a 12th degree Mason, United Fund worker, Community Action board member, Brownfield High teacher, PTA and Band Boosters member, and sits on the Day Care Center board. Born in 1926 in Tennessee, he moved to Texas as a child, graduated Cisco High in 1943, and moved to the area in 1961 with wife Robbie and their three children. The evening featured Dean Killion of Texas Tech University, with students Susan Sneed, Nick Nichols, Jim Eckerhert, and Mart Haney performing and a Raider Band film shown. Killion urged standards and self-reliance, praising Texas Tech quality. The Rev. Clarence Branch gave the invocation and benediction, and guests from several nearby towns attended.
