City building permit total tops $2 million

The City of Brownfield issued twelve building permits in December totaling 121,460, lifting 1992 yearly permit activity to 2,088,415. August was the peak month at 547,860, with monthly totals listed: January 10,250. February 264,834. March 86,722. April 112,870. May 346,754.

New Zealand exchange student ends stay in Brownfield

Jo Woollams from Auckland lived five months with the Don Horner family in Brownfield. She attended school, played on the Junior Varsity basketball team and joined the Spirit of the Plains Marching Band which won a state title. She will return to New Zealand next week to finish her final year, choosing a six month rather than yearlong stay.

Brownfield spring courses offered by South Plains College

The South Plains College Division of Continuing Education in Brownfield announces two spring registrations at Brownfield High School, 5-7 p.m., with classes from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Courses include Microcomputer Applications, Introduction to Sociology, American Government, and Business Applications. Tuition varies by residency. books cost 35 to 50 dollars, plus a 15 dollar lab fee.

Three Guilty Pleas Heard In 121st District Court

District Judge Ray Anderson presided as Jessie Padilla pleaded guilty to Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon on Liquor Licensed Premises and received a five year sentence in the Texas Department of Corrections. Robert Constancio Rivera pled guilty to Driving While Intoxicated on a subsequent offense and drew a two year probated term with conditions including residence in Terry County, fines, court costs, attorney’s fees, a probation fee, abstaining from alcohol, a midnight curfew, and mandatory treatment.
