Terry County Retail Sales Rise in 1960 Report

A nationwide SRDS survey shows Terry County total retail activity at 26 million dollars for the year ending June 30 1960. Local earnings reached 22.95 million dollars while per capita income remained strong. Retail strength was broad with gains in children’s wear drugs and household equipment.

Brownfield Chamber elects Farrar 61 president amid busy meeting

Paul Farrar was elected by acclamation as the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce 1961 president. L G Smith was named vice president and two new executive board members were chosen, with duties starting at the first 1961 meeting. Banquet date set for February 9 with speaker Louie Throgmorton of Republic National Life Insurance Co. in Dallas.

Diphtheria outbreak updates in Brownfield Plainview area

No diphtheria cases reported in Brownfield or Terry as of Wednesday morning. Health officials credit school vaccination rules in Brownfield for preventing spread. In Plainview about 100 cases and one death have been reported, with emphasis on Latin American communities and bracero workers to get inoculated.

Rites Held Tuesday In Chapel Here For Mrs. Carl Wilson

Funeral services for Mrs. Carl Wilson 56 of 1211 East Buckley were held Tuesday at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with John Mc Coy officiating. She died Sunday in Terry County Memorial Hospital after a week of illness. Burial followed at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include her husband Arthur Ham mers her father two sons Owen and Dewey Rogers two daughters Mrs Sid Friars and Mrs Tress Key three brothers Lee Hammers Curtis Blevins and more with two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

U S Chamber Official to Speak to Brownfield Rotarians

Robert E. Reilly of Denver, manager of the U S Chamber Western Division, will address Brownfield Rotarians Friday noon. Brownfield Cubs rebound to beat Monahans in Odessa tourney

Brownfield Cubs, after a 71-48 loss to Odessa's Broncos in the Odessa Tournament, toppled Monahans 55-42 with Howell scoring 23 and earning All-Tournament mention. Crites added 12, Tollett and Snider six apiece as the Cubs advanced to consolation finals against Permian Odessa.

Beauchamp Promoted to Brownfield Police Lieutenant

Lieut Larry Beauchamp promoted from sergeant to lieutenant of criminal investigation in Brownfield. A 23 year old officer since 1956, he has risen through the ranks and will head criminal investigations while coordinating with the sheriff. He also serves as Brownfield fire marshal and lives with his wife Frankie Jo at 505 Yucca Lane.
