Brownfield High takes Frenship Tourney title and local banquet set

Brownfield High School boys dominated the Frenship Tournament with overtime wins over Floydada 72-66 Brenship 54-53 and Littlefield 72-71 to claim the championship. Fort Worth humorist Clyde Harris will headline the upcoming Chamber of Commerce Banquet at the BHS Commons with Don Hendley as emcee. Tickets are 10 dollars, and Citizen of the Year honors will be announced and presented with biographies read. Harris promotes laughter with a long career in life insurance and motivational speaking and the event also installs chamber officers and directors Howard Yandel and Jimmy Hammons head the 1947 officer slate.

1986 Building Permits in Brownfield Decline From 1985

Brownfield issued 244 building permits in 1986 totaling 2,272,984, down from 3,311,215 in 1985, with eight new houses and 19 mobile homes. Major permits included Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 315,000, NTS transmission tower at 135,000, and Human Resources building renovation at 171,000. March had the largest permit total at 749,559. January the smallest at 25,414. December’s permits totaled 54,093 with multiple individual projects listed, including moves, remodels, and fence constructions.

Drought and flood mark Brownfield year 1987 rainfall surge

Brownfield saw an unusual year with a dry start through May and a dramatic shift on May 24 when four inches of rain and golfball sized hail struck. Total annual rainfall reached 25.10 inches, well above the 17.21 inch normal, aided by 1.37 inches in December and a snowy spell before Christmas.

Bankruptcy Seminar Planned by Terry County Farm Bureau

The Terry County Farm Bureau sponsors a bankruptcy seminar at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the amphitheatre of Coleman Terry County Park. Bennett Cook of Barnett and Cook in Lubbock will teach the session covering advantages and disadvantages of bankruptcy. Admission is open to all interested residents.

Terry County gin survey totals 38029 cotton bales

A Friday morning survey by the Texas Employment Commission found that gins in Terry County processed a total of 38029 bales of cotton.

Terry County Oil Output Ranked 28th in 1985

Terry County ranked 28th among Texas counties for petroleum value in 1985. The county produced 11.7 million barrels of crude oil valued at 314.1 million and 4.1 million cubic feet of natural gas valued at 9.0 million, with $40.4 million paid to owners as royalties. Produc ers paid $15.1 million in state product taxes and $13.9 million in wages to about 594 workers. Oil and gas firms drilled 89 wells, spending 34.2 million, completing 67 oil wells and 0 gas wells, with 22 dry holes costing 8.2 million. As of April 1, 1986, 744 wells produced in the county.

Vandals Burglars Reported in Brownfield Week

Brownfield Police investigate thefts and burglaries across the week. In 700 block Magnolia a Midland VCR a Panasonic disc player and a gold diamond ring valued at 2700 were taken. A 400 block Buckley garage break yielded gympack system and weights valued 350. Two payphones stolen from Revco and Handi Shop. A window at Charlie Price’s Western Auto shot out with pellets causing about 400 damage. A Brownfield girl reports an exposure incident near Brownfield Regional Medical Center.
