Mail Survey On Cotton Sub-Classification Office Planned

Strenuous efforts underway to gauge farmers in Perry County and surrounding areas about establishing a cotton classing office southwest of Lubbock. Kenneth Purtell and HL King of Brownfield lead the survey, with cards due January 10 and a 20 cent per bale user fee proposed for gin customers.

March of Dimes Campaign Starts in Terry and Yoakum

The 1957 March of Dimes campaign begins in Terry and Yoakum with Moreman named campaign director for the two-county area. Community leaders including Ruth Ram Seur Jack Bailey Kay Kessinger and others were announced to carry the ball for fund drives and publicity. Josh O Connor, March of Dimes president, pledged to prevent polio and provide care for affected families.

Farm Labor Day Set Tuesday at Terry Courthouse

A farm labor day is scheduled for Tuesday at the northeast basement of the Terry courthouse from 8 to 9:30 am. Aubrey T. Jones of the Texas Employment Commission announced the event, noting it aims to connect farmers seeking workers with job seekers for temporary and fulltime farm work. The program will run each Tuesday morning through January.

General Telephone 1957 Construction Budget Sets Record

J J (Dusty) Kemper of Brownfield says the General Telephone Company of the Southwest has announced a record 1957 construction budget totaling 314,200 066 with major outlays for outside plant and central office equipment. The plan covers 233 exchanges across Texas New Mexico Oklahoma Arkansas and Louisiana where the firm operates 155 000 telephones.

New CofC Directors Elected at Brownteiad Chamber

Five new directors join the Brownteiad Chamber of Commerce for 1897 after the election held at Melody Restaurant. The roster includes J. J. Kemper as president, with committee heads named for fields like banking, finance, resources, publicity, and recreation. VEFW Plans March of Dimes Benefit Bingo Night

VEW Schedules charity events with a granite bingo party at Veteraria Hall in fall 23. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes. Services for Carson Kibbe Held After Sorrowful Farewell

Funeral services for two year old Carson Lee Kibbe were held in Alamogordo New Mexico. The child died following an illness and was buried in a local cemetery. He was born in Portales and survived by his parents Dillon Kibbe and Mrs Kibbe, and by grandparents and other relatives.
