Brownfield and Terry County families received a box of food and toys from the Goodfellows last Christmas Eve. The effort assisted 204 families, including over 650 children, up from 172 the prior year, with boxes assembled at the Fire Station and County Rodeo Barn.
City of Brownfield issued 10 permits in December totaling 25 060, down from November's 16 permits and 135 468 dollars. Year to date stands at 1 294 610. Notable permits include siding remodeling for Joe Milburn 902 E Reppto 12 500. additions for Ernest Cullimore 1313 E Lons 8 400. remodeling for Auvanell Parrish 403 E Ripley 800. and fences for Antonia Galvan 1003 E Harris 20 0, among others.
Union School officials unveil Section I of the 1987 88 performance report for Union Independent School District. The report covers curriculum teaching and management with LBAS goals, SRA TEAMS and faculty exams for mastery. Noted graduates include Shawn Nisbett now at the Naval Academy.
A passenger found a note on an airplane and alerted crew. The note warned of a bomb aboard, triggering an emergency landing and questions about liability. An 11 year old allegedly wrote the note as a joke. FBI involvement followed and the case may lead to a lawsuit.
Brownfield Police report November activity shows fewer accidents and lower damage. A total of 16 accidents were handled, none with injuries or fatalities, compared with 25 in November 1987. Most incidents occurred in District III and II, with $19,165 in damage this month. Hit and run events rose to three, while injuries dropped to zero this year.
Two individuals, Sergio Infante and Alfredo G. Miranda, were arrested and jailed in Terry County on possession of a controlled substance cocaine. Miranda posted a $12,000 bond and was released. Infante remained in jail without bond at press time.
