Brownfield Band Defies Odds At UIL Solo and Ensemble

February 28 1990 Brownfield High School Spirit of the Plains band earned the most first divisions among Class 3A at District XVI UIL Solo and Ensemble at Texas Tech University. Brownfield placed second overall with 25 first divisions behind Plainview's 52. Nineteen soloists and 33 ensemble participants qualified for the state contest in Austin June 4. Notable qualifiers include James Cross Baritone soloist and Baritone Quartet, Jill Gardner Flute soloist and Flute Trio, Kristy Hock Clarinet soloist and Clarinet Choir, Bryan Pope Baritone soloist and Baritone Quartet, Johnny Quesada Trombone soloist and Trombone Quartet, Letty Romero Flute soloist and Flute Trio, Tara Shipp Flute soloist and Flute Trio.

Trucker Hauler Workshop Set by Tech Extension

Laws affecting truckers and oilfield haulers will be the focus of a March 1 workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Brownfield Country Club conducted by Texas Tech's Division of Continuing Education. Topics cover commercial driver's license, driver qualification files, log books, compliance procedures, inspection rules, and weight law changes with a Q and A session. The $20 fee includes a barbecue dinner and payment options MasterCard and VISA.

Brownfield netters chase sixth regional title this weekend

The 1989-90 Brownfield varsity tennis team aims to extend its regional streak to six, seeking to turn 90 upside down at the Texas Tennis Coaches Association regional Classes 3A-2A-1A tournament. Brownfield has won the last five regionals and covets another title to continue the Cub netters’ strong run.

City to award street sealcoat bids March 15

The City of Brownfield will award bids for the annual sealcoat project on March 15. The program covers expanded work totaling 75,000 square yards, a 25 percent increase to maintain and protect paved streets in the city.

Brownfield Council to Name BIDC Directors and Sealcoating

Brownfield city council will name Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation directors at 7:30 a.m. and finalize an agreement with Rehabilitation Corporation of America on an Intermediate Sanction Facility. At 8 a.m. bids for water and sewer work for the Court Residential Treatment Center will be opened. Sealing will occur on listed streets with restrictions on curbside parking during work.

Yowell Heads Chamber Special Events Committee

Larry Yowell becomes chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Special Events committee. The Membership committee meets Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Chamber office. Parks and Recreation task force meets Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Chamber office. Public welcome.
