Altura becomes Texas’s largest oil producer and a top three independent in the U.S., with 1996 output around 170000 barrels of oil daily and 220 million cubic feet of gas, plus 20000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids from gas processing plants.
Terry County Commissioners, in regular session, discussed needed new furniture for the West Texas Children’s Centre and repairs to the courthouse. Roy Wooten presented a cost list and was authorized to seek bids, detailing office, residential, equipment and grounds items totaling substantial sums.
