A $200,000 Texas Department of Health grant will fund Primary Health Care services through South Plains Public Health District clinics in Brownfield Denver City and Seminole. The aim is earlier cost effective care for common childhood illnesses and prevention of complications from diabetes and high blood pressure. Public Health Nurse Nancy Gray notes better general care and Melinda Walkup stresses managing diabetes and hypertension to avoid acute hospitalizations.
City leaders approve the Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation bylaws and contract amid discussion of officer approvals and a May 5 election. Officials name election judge and staff, consider brush disposal policy, and weigh funding options for a city chipper and trash rate changes.

The 121st Judicial District Community Justice Council met at the Terry County Courthouse to advance a community justice plan due March 1 to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Members include Yoakum and Terry County officials, area mayors, and legislators with plans to add tough alternatives to incarceration and outline local funding priorities. The council will reconvene February 22 at 1:30 p.m. in Brownfield to continue work.

Roy Cato a Terry County farmer will discuss moisture conservation for higher cotton yields at the seventh annual conservation workshop at the Terry County Show Barn. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a meal. Lewis Waters chairs.
County officials report scattered rainfall across Terry County with totals from 2 to 1/2 inches. ASCS director Danny Decker warns more rain is needed before planting to allow extensive land preparation while noting current underground moisture remains very low and crops are not yet in fields.
Brownfield State Bank and First National Bank will be closed Saturday and Monday, with Terry County Courthouse and Brownfield News closed Monday. Normal hours resume Tuesday. City of Brownfield urges all buildings to display two inch address numbers for 9-1-1 response, contact Earl Elrod at City Hall for details.
