Terry County Commissioners Discuss Tax Assessment Plans

Terry County Commissioners Court debated reassessment of county property for tax purposes and authorized Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Brock to hire two deputies. They set guidelines for fair property assessments inside the city and farmland, planned a Monday workday, and approved exhaust fans for the county show barn after Young Farmers bids.

Jaycee Banquet Plans 33rd Distinguished Service Awards

The Brownfield Junior Chamber of Commerce hosts a 7:30 p.m. Monday banquet in the high school dining commons. Eddie Johnson will MC, Odessa mayor Jim Reese will be the featured speaker, and several Outstanding awards will be given. Nominations for Outstanding Young Man due by 6 a.m. today to Capt. Lee Bartlett Jr. at 120 North 5th Street. The award honors service and leadership by Brownfield residents 35 or younger in Terry County. Tickets are $4 per person. Reese, Odessa mayor since 1968, is a noted journalist and former Jaycees official with a rich arts background.

Lions Club Talent Show Opens With Multi Division Competition

The 21st annual Lions Club Talent Tournament begins tonight at 7 30 p m in the Middle School auditorium with junior high and elementary divisions plus high school college and open categories and Friday features. Admission is 150 for adults and 1 for students with proceeds supporting Crippled Children and the Blind Camp at Kerrville. Prizes include 30 20 and 15 to top winners second and third receive certificates. Friday highlights include a cake sale with Mrs Dennis Lilly placing a giant cake up for bids for Girlstown near Whiteface.

Two Livestock Shows Set for Wellman and Meadow

More than 120 animals will be shown as the Wellman and Meadow Livestock Shows open across both towns this weekend and next week. The Wellman show starts 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Wellman School bus barn with about 60 animals in two classes. The Meadow Show, set for Saturday or Tuesday depending on a bi district game, features about 65 animals in three classes.

Final Seminar on Tax and Probate Held Tonight

The Brownfield High Little Theatre hosts a 7 p.m. final seminar in a four week series on taxes and probate of wills. County Atty Ray Anderson and accountant Hugh Thomas will lead. Open free to Brownfield area residents, sponsored by the Estate Planning Subcommittee of Terry County Building Committee the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce and the Extension Service.

Meet Your Nabor: Mark Pipkin New Brownfield Store Manager

Mark Pipkin a 23 year old native of La Mesa is the new manager of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Service Store in Brownfield. He recently took over the post and aims to grow into the role after settling in. Pipkin grew up in La Mesa and studied data processing and computer science at West Texas State University Canyon. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta and the local golf team in high school. He is married to Marsha Parsons of Lamesa. They have moved to Brownfield with no children.
