Glen Schmucker, Brownfield representative for Terry County in District 19, won the American Legion oratorical contest in Lubbock and earned a 250 dollar scholarship. He will advance to Division 4 on February 25 in Lubbock. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B G Schmucker and plans to pursue ministry after graduating from Brownfield High.

City Dads selected Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith of Dallas at a Thursday council meeting to underwrite the Power and Light Revenue bond sale. Four other bids were opened from Underwood Neuhaus, Verdon & Co, Dominick & Dominick, and First Southwest. The accepted bid carried an effective rate of 4.7847301 percent with a $100 premium, yielding a net interest cost of $926,323.75 across maturities from 1973 to 1991 with rates ranging 5 percent to 4 percent.
