City dogs must wear year tag and Brownfield license

Brownfield to host education secretaries workshop Friday

Brownfield hosts a Texas Educational Secretaries Association workshop at Brownfield High School with two featured speakers Captain Lee Bartlett Jr. of the Brownfield Police Department and Billy E. Snow director of special services at TSTA Austin. Bartlett will deliver the morning keynote introduced by Jesse Geron, while Snow speaks in the afternoon.

School board calls trustee election

The Board of Trustees met in special session to call the school board election and employ Mrs. Linda Nisbett for the remainder of the school year. A motion to set April 1 for places 6 and 7 passed unanimously. Terms expiring are John McFarland and Robert Noble, each for three years. Candidates must file by written application with the Secretary of the Board.

Light snow fell Monday with traces reported after a day of precipitation. The National Weather Service noted a 26 degree low Monday night as colder air moves in and more snow and freezing rain are forecast through Thursday. Registration Never Closes Under New Voting Rules

The notice explains that registration never closes under SB 51 and that registration to vote did not cease on January 31. Those registered by that date appear on the initial list. later registrants go on supplemental lists prepared 20 days before an election.

R B McAlister to be honored at reception

The Brownfield Jaycees host a reception at 5 30 Saturday at the Chamber of Commerce honoring State Representative R B McAlister. The Junior Chamber of Commerce banquet follows Saturday at 7 30 at the Brownfield Country Club with tickets four dollars. McAlister, a Lubbock state representative, began politics in 1968 and is serving his second term.

Lions sponsor 20th Annual Tournament of Talent

The Brownfield Lions announce the 20th Annual Tournament of Talent set for February 17 and 18 at the Middle School Auditorium with 50 cent child and $1 adult admission. Entries close February 15 with registration at multiple local offices including courthouse and City Hall.

The Terry County Chamber of Commerce held a Wednesday meeting led by newly elected president John Thomas. Attendees heard reports on the Mahon reception and recent banquet, heard committee chairmen appointments, and discussed attracting new industry and schools to Brownfield.
