Terry County hits 80 percent of 1969 Savings Bond goal
United States Savings Bond sales in Terry County totaled $79,559 in 1969, per J O Gillham, chairman of the Terry County Savings Bonds Committee. The county reached 80 percent of its $100,000 goal, with December sales at $5,240. In 1969, 69 counties in Texas met their year’s goal.

Mother and Baby Escape Serious Injury in Crash
Mrs. Max Gunn and her 16 month old son Michael escaped serious injuries when her 1966 Mustang was struck by a southbound 1959 Peterbilt at South First and Buckley. The truck rested atop the car in a Shamrock Service Station driveway. Both were treated at Brownfield General Hospital. the baby had facial and body abrasions while Mrs. Gunn had a leg laceration and a broken ankle. Damages were $300 to the truck and $3,000 to the Mustang. Cast of arrests and ongoing investigations followed at the intersection and local sites.

Donald W. Skiles of 707 Cactus Lane is a longtime Brownfield resident and officer of the Brownfield Motorcycle Association. Born July 2, 1942 in Stamford, he moved to Brownfield as an infant, graduated from Brownfield High School in 1960, and later became loan manager for Southwestern Investment Company. He once toured with the Emeralds, a band he played drums for along the California coast.
