Extension agent Joan Chandler advises using real foods and measuring tools to teach children proper portions. The activity compares cereal serving sizes and outlines daily guidelines: vegetables one cup, fruits servings, bread and cereals one slice, milk two servings, and meat two to three ounces, with teens needing extra servings.
The Senior Companion Program of Levelland recognized 77 volunteers on December 16, including 10 from Terry County. Readied to assist ill or homebound seniors, the program has operated since 1981 with companions meeting 20 hours weekly and about 1,044 hours annually per person. Elias Tijerina pled guilty to burglary of a building and received a five year probated sentence. Restitution of 3658.24 dollars, 84.50 dollars court costs, 250 dollars attorney fees, and a 40 dollar monthly probation fee are ordered. A midnight curfew and participation in treatment programs may be required.
