Terry United Way Reaches 85 Percent of Goal

Goodfellows Deliver 220 Packages in Brownfield Christmas Drive
In Brownfield Texas and Terry County 220 needy families received Goodfellow boxes with food and toys for 700 children. Volunteers moved items from the fire station to the County Rodeo Barn, staged boxes by age and sex, and delivered them on Christmas Eve. Cash and in-kind donations totaling nearly three thousand dollars supported the effort with help from City of Brownfield, Terry County, and the Brownfield ISD.

Chamber Banquet draws near with citizen awards sought
The 1986 Brownfield Chamber of Commerce Banquet on January 10 at Brownfield High School Commons will feature the 1986 Citizen of the Year, a guest speaker Clyde Harris of Fort Worth, and a presentation by 1985 Citizen of the Year Duane Moss. Nominations are due by January 2 at the chamber office. Tickets are $10 and officials for 1987 will be installed.

Brownfield 1986 A Year Of Struggle And Sports Progress
1986 proved economically difficult in Brownfield with low crop prices high living costs and oil prices dropping hurting the local economy. Yet sports offered bright spots as BHS Cub girls basketball nearly reached the state tournament and the varsity baseball team advanced to the state finals. The boys doubles team Dodd and Kingsley finished third in state. Weather featured a drought until May 24 followed by excessive rain.
