BIDCorp backs dairy project on Terry County land
BIDCorp directors moved to transfer an option on 278 acres north of Brownfield to entrepreneur Stanley Jones for a 2000 head dairy that would employ 25 people. The plan includes $150,000 in BIDCorp incentives, a $100,000 no interest loan, and matching $150,000 from Market Lubbock Inc. The project hinges on Brownfield City Council approval and Jones funding construction within six months, with long term job creation and tax base gains expected.

EMS woes loom over BRMC ambulance service finances
Brownfield Regional Medical Center EMS faces a bleak year with a year to date deficit over 49 thousand dollars through November and nearly 382 thousand in Medicare contractual write offs. Medicare’s 65 percent adjustment leaves the service with only 35 cents on the dollar for outpatient bills while Medicaid provider status may help recover some losses. The board notes rising self insured patients at about 20 percent and ongoing overtime costs after BRMC took over EMS operations in 2002.
