Goodfellows face shortages as 250 needy families are listed, more than last year’s 150, with toy and money donations lagging. Volunteers hope Christmas baskets containing a meal fixings and a child’s toy ensure every family has a holiday. Christmas Star Lights Brownfield Square for 18 Years
Civic leaders and residents celebrate the Christmas Star atop the Terry County Courthouse in Brownfield. The five point star, built by Dewitt Stafford from steel at $17.50 in materials, was conceived by C G Griffith of the Lions Club and has illuminated the town square for 18 years with red and blue lights during the Twelve Days of Christmas celebration and related events.

Brownfield man dies in county road pickup rollover
A Brownfield man, Benjamin Hurtado, 28, died after his 1978 Chevrolet pickup overturned on a county dirt road south of Brownfield around 7:30 p.m. He was partially ejected and died at Brownfield Regional Medical Center. In separate news, Eugene Brown was arrested for sale of alcohol without a license and possession of alcohol for resale after a Friday incident at Janies Place.

Artist Back Home Creating in Brownfield as Star Puts Cap on Portraits
Walter Dee Burnett, Brownfield born artist, painter and sculptor, has work in 29 states and recently completed the last of five ex governor portraits for Oklahoma's Capitol. A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, he studied at Texas Tech and the University of Colorado, and plans a 15 painting series on the West Texas cotton industry. He displays hand sculptures in Hemphill-Wells at South Plains Mall in Lubbock.
