Brownfield FFA Chapter Tops State Meet With Four Top Finishes

Brownfield FFA swept the State Leadership meet in Huntsville winning two first places and a second, the senior Farm Skill team placing first and a fourth. William Smyrl was high individual in FFA quiz. the quiz team also place second. Senior Farm Skill squad members are Kelly Mac Sears Jerry Paden Max Miller. Junior team members Dixon Laham Leon Willis Avon Floyd. Second place quiz team includes Smyrl Wesley and Lesley Britton. Brownfield’s success coincides with the resignation of Lester Buford as Area II Supervisor after years at Brownfield. Wes Hicks remains in the Vocational Agriculture department. Buford to take Area II post in Big Spring January.

Community Cantatas to Close Brownfield Christmas Season

The Methodist church choir and the Denver City Community choir present cantatas Sunday evening at 7:30 and 8:00 respectively. The Dawn of Christmas and The Light Eternal join last week’s holiday events. both performances are free and open to the public at the high school auditorium, directed by Mrs Newell Reed and Ross Hise.

Goodfellows Profit From Rotary Party

Brownfield Rotarians held their annual Christmas party to benefit the Goodfellows Fund. Members donated toys or cloth items, wrapped and labeled them, enabling the fund to distribute gifts. Master of Ceremonies James Harvey Pallas closed with humorous presentations including a $5 Buick gift certificate to Johny Portwood and a plaque for Graig Elder.

Break-ins Reported Across Rural Areas Sparking Sheriff Warning

Terry County Sheriff Chick Lee warns farmers of rising rural break ins. He urges neighbors to monitor unusual activity and record vehicle license plate numbers, models, and colors. Three rural cases included nocturnal and daytime thefts of radios clocks groceries luggage and guns, plus a Junior High school shop break in for tools.

Terry Farmers Approve Cotton Quotas 1954 Referendum Voted 407 to 1

Terry county farmers backed marketing quotas for the 1954 cotton crop by a 407 to 1 count, with a 58 to 1 tally cited in original reports. The plan promises a 90 percent parity support price if acreage allotments are followed, and Texas statewide allotment figures are explained by the five year planting history and weather adjustments.

Community Caroling Night Planned in Brownfield

Brownfield residents may vent Christmas spirit in a Wednesday caroling event. Singers report to their church at 8 30 PM and proceed through the city. The event is sponsored by Cen Tex Music Club and Kiwanis Club with church choir members urged to attend.
