Brownfield Woman Dies After Night Car Crash
A 31 year old Brownfield woman, Maria Ritz, died at the scene after a single vehicle crash on U S 385 seven miles north of Brownfield. The driver Joe Ochoa Jr. fled the scene uninjured. The wreck occurred about 3 a m and Ritz was found at 7 30 a m. Mass for Ritz was held at St Anthony s Catholic Church with burial under Brownfield Funeral Home. Ritz leaves a son and two daughters, plus siblings and parents. The accident and death are under investigation by the Terry County Sheriff s Department and Texas Highway Patrol.

Gasoline Fire Burns Boy Severely in Backyard Explosion
A 12 year old Brownfield boy was badly burned when a gasoline can exploded in his backyard on East Harris Street. He was rushed to Lubbock and then to Galveston Shriner Burn Center where he is listed in satisfactory condition. His twin brother Jackie suffered minor burns and was treated and released. Police logs through December 15 show 17 offense reports including thefts and burglaries.

Commissioners Hire New Assistant Agent and Approve Asphalt Machine Bid
Terry County commissioners approved hiring Brad W. Pierce as assistant county extension agent, replacing Dale Johnson who left for an oil company position. Duggan Receives Oath Joins Hospital Board
The Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board swore in John Duggan as a new director at Monday night’s regular session. The board canceled a lease on an L-9 automated accounting machine due to a non cancelable term through 1982 and welcomed Duggan to the panel. A utility right of way request on a 20 foot alley and easement was also discussed.

BISD Trustees Approve 388500 Air Conditioning Project
Brownfield Independent School District boosted a contract of 388,500 for a three campus air conditioning and heating system. The modified Armstrong bid covered Oak Grove Colonial Heights and Brownfield Intermediate with adjustments to permits, insulation, and high school gym cooling.
