Western Union seeks to close Brownfield telegraph office Texas
Application filed on November 26 1968 with the Federal Communications Commission seeks closing of the Brownfield Texas Telegraph Office at 210 South 6th Street. Replacement telegraph service would run 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and 8 AM to noon Saturday, with after hours service at the bus station 301 South 2nd Street 5 PM to 8 PM weekdays and weekend hours. Public may file objections or support by January 2 1969.

Weekly Classing Report Released
The three Cotton Classing offices of the USDA in this area classed 194 000 samples of new crop cotton last week ending Dec. 6. The season total reached 888 000 with 766 000 samples classed on the South Plains last year at this time. Predominant grades were Strict Low Middling Middling Light Spotted and other listed grades forming 85 percent of the total. Average staple length on the South Plains was one inch with micronaire readings showing 22 percent in 3.5 4.9 and 19 percent in 3.3 3.4 and 37 percent in 3.0 3.2. Pressley tests averaged 85 000 psi Brownfield, 84 000 psi Lubbock, and 83 000 psi Lamesa.

Airman Due Home for Christmas Visit
Staff Sergeant Doyle Crawford and his wife Mrs. Crawford will fly from Holland to New York City December 19 and drive to Brownfield to visit his parents Mr. and Mrs. G R Beasley. Crawford, a 1960 Air Force recruit, is an electronics and radio communications specialist and will be stationed in Plexi Miss as an instructor. He plans a career in the air force. Also visiting the Beasleys are Doyle's sisters Linda Roberts of Mulane Kansas and Sharron Wright of San Antonio.
