Voters approve four more years for boll weevil eradication

Producers in Terry County and parts of Lynn County plus all of Andrews voted 1098 in favor and 178 against to extend the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation program for four more years. The measure keeps the Western High Plains Zone eligible for federal cost share funds and continues pest control efforts for cotton growers.

Christmas Tree for Kids brighten Terry County holidays

The Terry County Children’s Protective Services sponsors the Christmas Tree for Kids program in the Terry County Clerk Ann Willis office to provide gifts for children up to age 12 who might otherwise be left giftless. Last year over 200 children received gifts. 146 names had been left so far, with donations totaling about $1,600 including $100 from the Brownfield VFW Post and United Way funds. Residents may donate or pick a name to buy gifts, though gifts are preferred to be left at the Terry County Law Enforcement Center by December 16. For info, contact Willis at 637-8551.

Kids color their way to win News contest

The Brownfield News names the winners of the annual Christmas Coloring Contest. In each age group the top two earn Brownfield Bucks with $15 for first and $10 for second. First place finishers include Maria Peters Destinee Howard Brendon Competio. runners up Parker Bingham Sabrina Castro Adrian Martinez. Winners may visit the newspaper office to claim prizes and have photos taken.

Erwin Named New Terry County Extension Agent

Amy Erwin was approved by County Commissioners on December 9 to become Family and Consumer Sciences Agent for Terry County. A Texas Tech graduate and current Crosby County Extension Agent, she is active in 4-H and Family and Consumer Sciences associations. Erwin will join the Terry County office February 1, 2003.
