Extension cords blamed for Christmas fires

Brownfield Fire Chief Marvin Dawson warns small extension cords overload and cause fires. Four recent blazes at a business and three homes linked to cords prompt advice to use heavy duty UL listed outdoor cords, inspect bulbs and sockets, keep trees in water, and monitor wiring for damage to prevent tragedies.

City Council Reassigns Gas Service Contract

The Brownfield City Council approved reassigning the gas service contract to Cabot Corporation, noting Cabot's acquisition of We star Company from Pioneer Corporation. Chamber of Commerce names Don Ivie president and new directors

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce named Don Ivie its 1985 president and Curtis Christopher as next year’s vice president. Incoming directors taking office in January include George Jameson Bruce Woods Fred Cawthon Howard Yandell Cecil Ferguson and Lynn Thames. The six outgoing directors are Evelyn Carey Dwight Ford Tony Isaacs Tim Jinkins Charles Orum and Rusty Andrews. Larry McVay will remain on the board as past president for one more year. Also reported were net proceeds of 1328 from a bi district playoff game between Littlefield and Post. The banquet is planned for Jan 19 at BHS Commons with speaker Dr W C Newberry the Sage of the Southwest. Preparations continue for the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial celebration with a musical depicting Terry County history by Linda Billings.

Time is running out Goodfellows help Brownfield children

Time is running out as the Goodfellows again operate in Brownfield to aid local youngsters families and elders. Donations of money old or new toys and time are welcome at the fire station and city hall. Dick Fletcher accepts gifts at 218 W. Main St for toy purchases and Christmas baskets including a hen bread green beans and fruit. TG Y’s Plaza Shopping Center will give cabbage patch dolls every Saturday until Christmas to those who register with SAW and bring a toy for the Goodfellows.

Legendary Brownfield cagers vs Arkansas Gems at Cub Gym

The Local Vocals a Brownfield pick team meet the Arkansas Gems women’s pro squad at 7:30 p.m. December 17 in Cub Gym. Tickets cost 5 dollars for adults 3 dollars for students free for preschoolers with an adult. The Gems boast a 161 win 2 loss record in 163 games played mostly under men’s rules with strong passing and ball handling.
