Brownfield families are invited to participate in a Goodfellows effort aimed at teaching children the value of giving during Christmas. The program encourages parental involvement as the community supports less fortunate youngsters and shares the spirit of the season.
The Brownfield Chamber Trade Development Committee launches a Twelve Days of Christmas Celebration from December 12 to December 24, nightly 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Courthouse Square with entertainment, plus the Brownfield Goodfellows collect used toys for distribution to needy families via churches and welfare workers.
A Dallas woman was arrested and had her car impounded for failing to return library books. Librarian Irene Paddack notes 36 books valued at $360 were lost in 1982 83, with fines capped at one dollar. Theft charges may apply for valuable books, with penalties up to 200 to 1000 dollars and possible jail time.
Brownfield merchants join in a campaign against shoplifting with higher court fines rising from 106 to 206 dollars. The microwave was found in the car trunk along with drug paraphernalia. Yolanda Bustamante faces multiple theft counts and a $1700 bond. Rudolpho Guerrero and Adam Hector Hernandez were also charged. Another Brownfield man was arrested for theft at United Supermarket on South First Street. Three plate glass windows at Smutt's Muffler Shop were damaged, with $1200 in losses. Three pickups on East Cardwell had windshields broken, totaling about $728.
