Football Banquet Set Monday for O8C Clubs

Cancer Society delegates named for Terry County meeting

The Terry County Chapter of the American Cancer Society held its bi monthly board meeting at the Health Unit on November 26. Mrs M E Sfinson and Mrs Tom Petti led the service committee which contacted 17 local firms to circulate cancer pamphlets to employees. About 2009 people were reached. Mrs O D Kennedy will organize an open women’s meeting in January featuring the film Breast Self Examination.

District Session Set At First Methodist Church

An all day district session of Brownfield Methodist personnel will begin at 9 30 a m Friday in the First Methodist Church. Presiding will be district Superintendent Dr Dallas D Denison of Brownfield with reports from 30 pastors. See See No 4 Page 2

Mother Advisor Is Honored By Rainbow Girls

Mrs. Earl W. Layman was installed mother advisor of Brownfield Rainbow Girls at the Masonic Temple. Juana Jay Barrett and Mary Joe Christ in were installed officers, with Mrs. Wayland Parker as chaplain. Gennie Christian gave Christmas customs from other countries and carols followed. A skating party in Lubbock is planned for Monday. the Christmas party is scheduled December 16 with toy exchanges for Goodfellows. A New Year luncheon is planned in the temple Banquet Room. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Claud Buchanan and Mrs. Viola Grace Barrett.

Police Officer Williams Promoted to Captain

Zane Williams, a police officer since 1956, was promoted to captain this week by Chief James Tippit. His appointment took effect December 1 after about four years on the force. He previously served in Plainview, Snyder and Sweetwater departments. The 29-year-old first became assistant chief and was promoted to sergeant in February after about five months with Brownfield police. His training includes study under the Texas Department of Public Safety and a recent Odessa criminal investigation school.

Brownfield student first to operate 82 inch telescope

Charles Isbell of Brownfield the University of Texas astrophysics major became the first undergraduate to operate the 82 inch telescope at McDonald Observatory Fort Davis during Thanksgiving. He worked with Dr. H A Apt on spectrographic studies of two northern constellations before returning to Austin.

Youth Injured in Scooter Collision Near School

A 15 year old BHS student suffered a mild concussion and head lacerations when his scooter collided with a car east of the junior high cafeteria. The driver, Mrs Bertie Norton Cole, attempted a left turn as the youth reportedly did not see the vehicle. The injured youth, Charles Hare, is listed in satisfactory condition at Treadaway Daniels Hospital.

Union Wildcats edge Jayton for regional six man title

Union Wildcats defeated Jayton 42 to 38 to claim the Region 1 Six Man championship before about 1,200 chilly fans. The win gives Union a 12-0 season record with a late surge in the final minutes of play.
