Brownfield Seniors Honored as Optimist Texan Awardees
Brownfield High School seniors Arlene Hernandez and Bobby Gonzalez were named Optimist Texan and Tex Anne for November at a Thursday club meeting. Hernandez is daughter of Fausto and Diana Vasquez. Gonzalez is son of Robert and Margarita Gonzalez serving as multi sport athlete with band and community activities. Hernandez plans Hardin-Simmons University study and law enforcement. Gonzalez aims for Sul Ross State University in law enforcement and professional baseball.

Brownfield reports November building permits rise
City records show sixteen permits filed in November totaling 130068 dollars, up from October’s 18 permits at 50780 dollars. Year to date permits total 1269550 dollars, with projects including carport, fence, remodeling, storage, sidewalk, home upgrades, fireplace, and a Sonic Drive-In addition and remodel.

Union ISD trustees passed a district improvement plan with eight goals started in 1986 and fully adopted in 1987. Wellman couple helps neighbors harvest cotton in tough week
R J and Ruth Rowden celebrated Thanksgiving after a quadruple heart bypass. Neighbors and friends organized 25 cotton modules over two days to aid their recovery and show thanks. Bucking winds, Pendergrass Gin provided fuel and hauled modules to be gunned as well as support from Wellman community. Rowden praised the helpers and reflected on blessings and family. He and his wife marked their 50th wedding anniversary and have two children and seven grandchildren. Leslie McPherson of Brownfield won a $50 grand prize in a football contest with her week six entry.

The Brownfield Chamber beautification committee will judge holiday yard displays. A registration form appears on page 2 and must be mailed to Box 152 by December 15. A photograph will run in the December 18 News. Aubilee Craig chairs the committee. Judges choose from submitted yards.
