After five years on South Fifth Street West Texas Motors relocated to the corner of 8th and Main. The Texaco service station remains and Studebaker sales and service operate in the old and adjacent building as the 1954 models arrive.
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors reviewed finances from the Oilman Businessman barbecue and the chamber. Hubert Lewis resigned as director and plans for the annual Christmas program were discussed. Santa’s visit is slated for Christmas week with a possible helicopter arrival.
Brownfield launches the annual Goodfellow Fund appeal with toy drop off at Dewitt's Welding Shop on First Street and checks sent to Goodfellow Fund Box 948. Lions Club chair Herb Chesshir urges donations, notes higher need, and asks for accurate family addresses and ages for baskets of groceries and gifts.
The East Ward Junior High PTA will host a big fall fair Friday December 4 at 7 30 p m in the junior high auditorium and gym. Acrobatic stunts and dancing including hula hoop will entertain. Prizes honor top talent in two shows. Concessions hobby room games cake walk and fortune telling booths included. Proceeds fund school equipment purchases with no general admission charged.
Completions matched new locations confined to the Prentice field in northwestern Terry county. Two locations and an amended drilling permit summarize the week’s activity. New locations include the Joseph I. O Neill Jr and Ella Covington wells with 1,260 and 1,380 feet from specified lines in Section 21, Block D 14, C&MAR Survey.

Postmaster Joe Shelton warns Brownfield residents that this Christmas will see the largest mailing period in history due to population growth. He urges early mailing with specific deadlines for distant and local cards and parcels, recommends prepaid stamps and proper addressing, and notes daily mail processing will rise from 4,000 to about 20,000 pieces during the peak.

Two thirds voting approval needed for marketing quotas to set a 90 percent parity price while acreage limits reduce next year’s state crop.
Rev. Vel D. Crosby is named the new pastor of the First Methodist Church in Lubbock succeeding Rev. Dal las D. Denison. Crosby, longtime executive secretary of the Northwest Texas Conference Board of Education, will preach his first sermon Sunday. The Crosby family will reside at 492 East Tate Street as the church moves its leadership in a switch approved by the Conference Board and Cabinet.
Charles Phillips of Brownfield was the only man inducted through Selective Service Board 116 in November. Ten more will be needed to fit the Dec 10 quota. Notices sent to Brownfield and Levelland residents. Several have volunteered for immediate induction and one transfer is scheduled. The January quota for the four-county district is 12 men with pre induction physicals on Dec 16.
Terry county produced 16 635 bales of cotton by November end per County Agent Jim Pay. He now estimates the year will reach 21 600 bales, about 5 000 more than on hand. Gins expect about 25 000 bales this year. Recent damp weather and 12 inches of rain halted strip-picking temporarily.
Brownfield stores bustle with last minute shoppers as 18 days remain until Christmas. Lay away sales have been strong for weeks while mothers with kids visit toy and gift shops, then return with spouses to finalize purchases.
