Unemployment figures rise in Terry County

Terry County's unemployment rate jumped from 4.9 percent in August to 7.8 percent in October, with 404 out of 5,211 in the civilian labor force jobless. Texas statewide rate rose to 7.2 percent, higher than last month, as TEC officials call for honest evaluation and action.

Candidate filing period opens Tuesday for spring primaries

Terry County residents may qualify for 13 weeks extra benefits

Terry County residents currently unemployed may receive up to 13 weeks of emergency unemployment benefits after benefits lapsed post November 17, under a federal bill signed by President Bush. The Texas Employment Commission will notify eligible individuals by mail and require a form return.
