Terry County Faces 7000 Cotton Puller Shortage This Fall
Texas Employment Commission estimates Terry County will need 7000 seasonal farm workers during the peak harvest. A three man Farm Labor Committee reviewed the figure and learned the deficit will be filled by Mexican braceros under Public Law 78. The panel includes R. D. Jones Sr., R. N. McClain, and O. R. Field Day Set For Tuesday At Sandyland Experimental Site
Initial results from the Terry’s Sandyland plot on the Eulice Farrar farm near Gomez will be presented during a field day tour from 8 30 a m to 12 30 p m Tuesday. County Agent Jim Foy says the event offers first hand input on sandyland farming to area farmers and businessmen. Findings cover fertilizer rates, irrigation studies, planting methods and crop rotation for cotton and grain sorghums with results shared across Terry Cochran Yoakum Dawson Gaines Hockley Lynn Martin Bailey and Lubbock counties.
