Brownfield police urge parents to safety proof children as school starts. Lt. Dick Fletcher stresses bicycle rules, riding on the right, using hand signals, and not performing tricks. They warn against riding between cars, center street riding, and carrying more than one passenger.

In October the Terry County bicentennial observance will feature a non denominational cantata I Love America directed by Jerry Curry of Brownfield Schools. Rehearsals meet Thursdays at 7 30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with a large cast invited to participate in Jerry County’s notable event.
Methodist Hospital of Lubbock reports Sig Atkinson has a clean heart bill after tests and hopes to return soon. Brian Paul Watt, grandchild of Bill and Irene Rieck, born August 14 at St Marys Hospital Lubbock weighing 242 ounces and 21 inches long to parents Steve Watt and Carolyn Sue Watt with J P Watt as grandfather. Joe Masso announces three new directors for the Community Action Board Carrie Sherman the Rev Paul Nieto and Mrs O V Harris to be introduced at next board meeting Tuesday morning. Chamber Manager Gordon Hoopman previews Harvest Festival in October with ten Queen candidates and a booth at South Plains Fair for wider publicity. Past Harvest Festival Queens to be notified of bicentennial celebration. Housewives invited to join Town and Country League bowling on Thursday mornings at Sands Bowl.
The Terry County budget for 1976 totals 1 335 205 43, up 34 508 75 from 1975, with an estimated county value of 70 150 000 and a tax rate of 95 cents. Indebtedness drops from 58 000 to 31 000 by Jan 1, 1976, and will be paid off that year without borrowing from the general fund, Judge Herbert Chesshir presiding.
Brownfield police report a burglary at Goodyear on 502 W Broadway where six color TV sets were taken after breaking in through the window and a door. Missing were four 19 inch sets, one 17 inch and one 13 inch, three Zenith and three General Electric units. Loss estimated at 2500 dollars. The theft occurred between 4:30 and 6:56 a.m. Tuesday. Three juveniles were arrested in unrelated incidents including a female intoxicated, with two males charged for spray painting vehicles.
The National Weather Bureau forecasts precipitation on Thursday around 30 percent, then clearing skies and rising temperatures later in the week. A slight chance of isolated showers remains, with temperatures expected to run a bit below normal.
Jim Cunningham of 601 Park Lane was honored as the oldest man at Terry County Pioneer Reunion held Saturday at the American Legion Hall. He moved to Terry County in 1902 with his family and recalled early county life, schooling in one-room classes, his father's 12 years as county commissioner, and family ties to local figures. Cunningham witnessed an 1923 Easter Monday murder case, recounting details on the way to town with his father.
Jerry Curry, director of choral music at Brownfield Schools, reports growing ensembles, including an 89-voice A capella and a 44-voice concert choir. He outlines fall through spring concerts, all-region and all-state auditions, and a January solo and ensemble contest.
