New District Executive for Quanah Parker Scout District

Solons rescind Terry County split tax payment policy
Terry County commissioners meet in regular session and revoke the split tax payment option allowing taxpayers to pay part before January 31 with penalties avoided if the rest is late. A Texas Legislature bill makes the option optional. The panel also received airport runway renovation updates and courthouse remodeling plans. They transferred 100000 to four precincts, and approved 400 more for the Veterans Service Officer travel budget.

Crossing guards posted for student safety at six Brownfield crossings
Brownfield Police Department will station six school crossing guards along Tahoka and Lubbock Highways to protect youngsters. Anita Contreras and Ramona Contreras work 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:10 p.m. at Tahoka Road and A Street. Leon Ammons and Stella Contreras cover Tahoka Road and D Street same hours. Eloisia Guerra and Anita Rodriguez guard Lubbock Road and Ripley Street from 7:20 to 8:10 a.m. and 3:45 to 4:20 p.m. Repairs delay repainting of crossings. Drivers urged to use caution near schools.

Two charged in burglary of Lindsey's Hardware
Two Brownfield men, Steven Paul Cerniglia 22 and Timmy Ray Morris 19, are jailed in Terry County on burglary charges after an early Saturday break in at Lindsey's Hardware. Police found pellets shot through the north store window, missing handguns, and footprints to Cerniglia's home leading to arrests. Bond for Cerniglia set at 6000. Morris bond not yet set.

Eighth Annual Terry County Fair set for Oct 6 8
The fair runs October 6 to 8 at the National Guard Armory with 12 departments and outside exhibits plus a barnyard. 1983 Cubs Scrimmage Set at Snyder Before Opener
The Brownfield Cubs in week three of football practice prep for a Sept. 9 season opener at Lamesa travel to Snyder for a scrimmage with the Tigers. They recently scrimmaged Dunbar in Lubbock, with standouts including John Jackson Emilio Cabrera Ricky Garcia Darrell Wilson and Brad Bell. The game starts at 5 30 p m with junior varsity first.
