Brownfield Council weighs tax hike amid budget shortfall

Brownfield Sales Tax Rebates Lag Behind 1983 Figures

Brownfield's one percent sales tax rebate total through August was 279,636 versus 331,772 through Aug. 1982, about a 15 percent decrease. Aug 1983 rebates were 56,071 compared with 70,486 in Aug. 1982, with year-to-date totals for nearby towns also down from 1982.

Harvest Festival Queen Candidates Open Ticket Sales

The 1983 Harvest Festival queen candidates began ticket sales on Aug. 15 with a kick-off party hosted by queen mother Mrs. Lendal Harlan. 1983 Summer Registration Closes for Brownfield Students

Brownfield ISD gears up for the last week of summer registration with events across all schools. Kindergarten through eighth grade join Tuesday signups at Brownfield Middle and Elementary campuses while new students bring birth certificates and immunization records. BISD adds 24 new teachers including Ralph Newton and Douglas Duncan, with details on page 16.

Burglary charges filed by police department

Two arrests were made in the Monday burglary of Cagle's Sportacular on the west side of the square. Tommy Sifuentes and Oscar Alvarado, both teens, are in Terry County jail on $10,000 bonds. Investigators seek more arrests and warn of additional stolen merchandise valued over $2,000.
