New Brownfield teachers share town roots and goals
New teachers Matthew Neighbors and Kathy Henson join Brownfield ISD bringing prior experience from Dunbar Jr. High and Floydada. Neighbors will teach world history while Henson, with 11 years in education, emphasizes teamwork among parents, teachers and admins to boost student success. Classes start Aug 18 with about 2,450 students enrolled and a credit recovery option for dropouts.

Consolidation Plans for Union and Wellman Schools
In August 1996 Union voters approved consolidation 37 to 10 and Wellman voters approved merger 105 to 0. During 1996-97 the two schools began planning with Union closing doors and Wellman expanding student base. Superintendent Yeager cited support from the Texas Education Agency and Region 17 Education Service Center as helpful in this transition. Four Union staff members, including one teacher, were added and two bus routes will operate in the Union area, bringing total routes to four. The addition of classes is anticipated due to increased enrollment.

Brownfield seeks suspect in August drive‑in incident
Police continue investigation into an August 8 drive‑in case at 708 Yucca Lane where a gray 1984 Ford van crashed through a residence wall. The driver fled after sideswiping a vehicle and crossing two yards. A Brownfield Crime Line reward is offered for information leading to arrest or conviction. Call 637‑7878 or 637‑2511.
