Combest holds town meeting in Brownfield on taxes and energy
Congressman Larry Combest visited Brownfield for a town meeting with about 100 residents at City Hall. He addressed the tax bill, retroactive, value added and energy taxes, health care, the Presidents Crime Initiative, NAFTA with Mexico, federal regulation and spending cuts. He warned that energy taxes could raise gasoline prices by four cents a gallon to trim a $23 billion deficit, and noted the value added tax as a potential finance option for health care.

South Plains College Offers Evening Courses at Brownfield Center
South Plains College plans fall courses at the Brownfield Community College Center with 6:30 to 9:30 pm classes once weekly. Registration is 5 to 7 pm Monday August 16 at Brownfield High School in room 20 near the west entrance. Courses include Micro Computer Operating Systems SOC 230 Introduction to Sociology PSY 231 General Psychology CIS 132 with three credit hours each. In state tuition ranges from 127 to 331 dollars plus a 15-dollar lab fee and books estimated at 40 to 50 dollars. High school seniors may apply for early admission with written approval.
