Tax hearing sparks talk on BISD tax hike and teacher pay

About 40 Brownfield Independent School District residents, mainly teachers, attended a two hour tax hearing on potential school tax increases near 8 percent. Assistant Superintendent James Willis outlined the tax rate comparison from 1983 84 to the proposed 1984 85 rate, noting a 7.99 percent rise to 59 cents per 100 dollars valuation to maintain local funds.

County commissioners approve multiple equipment bids at court

Terry County Commissioners reviewed bids and approved purchases including a motor grader for 89 925 from Plains Machinery, a front end loader for 44 777 from Case Power, insulation for 10 271.52, a 1984 Ford F150 for 10 329, travel for the deputy clerk and election seminar, a 40 registration for two deputies, two walks for 449 each for the reserve deputy organization, and 11 614 17 in amendments.
