Brownfield Chamber plans October Harvest Festival event
Brownfield's Chamber of Commerce outlined plans for the Harvest Festival set for October 19 with a theme The Fabulous Fifties. A $4,000 loan was approved to cover August expenses as membership drive efforts ramp up led by O D Hearn, with a grand prize of 750 in gift certificates and ticket sales beginning August 19 featuring six area organizations. Teresa West named queen mother, Shawn Bradley missing case noted.

Brownfield man dies in irrigation electrocution accident
Gary Alan Beyer 41 of Brownfield was fatally electrocuted Thursday while changing a fuse on an irrigation unit 13 miles northwest of Brownfield. J.P. Carolyn Proctor ruled the death accidental. Beyer, born in Abilene, moved to Brownfield in 1979 and managed Johnson Gin Co. He married Sandra Stice in 1980. Burial was at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

The Brownfield Crime Line Information offers 300 rewards for information leading to arrests and indictments in several 1985 cases. Targets include Brownfield Middle School at 1001 East Broadway Street burglary during Aug 1–2, 1985 and a vehicle burglary at 403 "C" between Aug 2–3. Also rewards for attempted arson at 503 North 9th Street and a mobile home burglary at 321 Lubbock Road, Aug 5. Taken items include tools and a cassette player.
