Health officials outline Brownfield home for aged rules

Texas Health Department official J Watt Hornburg explains two types of homes for the aged nursing and custodial care at a South Plains Health Unit meeting. A nursing home requires a trained nurse while custodial care needs a physician for regular checkups. A license costs 25 dollars plus 1 dollar per bed and homes with over three patients must be licensed. A four or more resident home unrelated to the operator must be approved and licensed.

Diversified Sorghum Feeds Texas Swine Producer

A. D. Wenzel, 63, north of town, has raised hogs on home-grown feed for 22 years. He grows cotton sorghums alfalfa and cotton, sells prize pigs to breeders and 4-H groups, but also to the commercial market. He notes diversified farming is essential and that feeding hogs with local grain yields more than elevator sales. He operates about 100 swine, irrigates 65 acres, practices crop rotation, and shows animals at fairs across multiple cities.

City Purchases Garbage Trucks and Equipment

Brownfield City Council approved almost 30 thousand dollars in equipment. West Texas Equipment of Lubbock bid 20 thousand for a Caterpillar bulldozer tractor and Plains Machinery of Lubbock bid 9,976 for three garbage truck bodies. Bids for three truck chassis will be announced soon.

Nine Proposed Amendments to Texas Constitution

Awards Given Pack 74 Studies Bicycle Safety

Cub Scouts of Pack 74 met in The Legion Hall to judge bikes for safety with Texas Department of Public Safety standards. Reflectors were awarded for best signals, balance on a line, and distance riding with balance along a route.
