BRMC Hospital Board Holds Emergency Session After Death of Administrator
The Terry Memorial Hospital board met in an emergency session at 4 30 p m to address issues following the death of Hospital Administrator Darrell Helton. President Bob Bailey outlined interim actions and introduced the executive committee of the board Dr Carl Smith and Jo Willis. The group approved Bailey's signature authority for immediate checks and discussed other business items before adjourning.

Terry County Grand Jury Indicts 13 People
The Terry County Grand Jury met in summer session and returned 18 indictments against 13 individuals. Martin Simon and Roger Contreras face three counts each from a July 17 incident involving property damage, irrigation system damage, and operating a vehicle without consent. Air Show Plans Hailed by Brownfield Chamber
The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce heard a request from the Confederate Air Force for help in staging an air show at the Terry County airport on August 29. Squadron leader Jack Goulding described the group’s work restoring World War II aircraft and sought publicity and information assistance from the chamber. The Panhandle squadron is based at Terry County Airport with gates opening at 10 a.m. on August 29.

Brownfield Administrator Darrell Helton Killed in Bicycle Crash
Darrell Helton 36 longtime administrator of Brownfield Regional Medical Center died after being struck by a car during an early morning bicycle ride on Tahoka Road near Cheryl Ave. His body was found by Brownfield Patrolman Roy Rice about 7 a.m. Thursday. Police pursued leads, including a 1974 Ford station wagon reported vandalized by a local youth. Helton, a Santa Anna native, earned an RN from Odessa College in 1974 and was married to DeAnna Lenamond with one daughter, Amy. A memorial fund was established by the BRMC Auxiliary to buy hospital equipment. Burial was at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with funeral service at Brownfield Church of Christ.
