Keyes Resigns to Accept Midland Bank Post

John S. Keyes resigns as vice president and assistant trust officer at Brownfield State Bank to become vice president and trust officer of Commercial Bank and Trust Co in Midland. He starts August 16 and will also serve as commercial loan officer. Brownfield President J O Gillham lauds his work. Keyes expresses gratitude and pride in the department’s growth.

Texas TAIR Reading Conference Heads to Canyon

Brownfield educator Buckley serves on the TAIR publicity committee for the 13th annual Texas reading conference to be held in Canyon. Postmaster Wm. C. Brown says all Brown field Post Office workers will join the Postal Efficiency Plan announced July 22 by Postmaster General John A. Gronouski. The plan aims to reduce costs and improve service with local and national participation.

Old Settlers State Reunion Plans Set for Aug 28

The fifth annual Old Settlers Reunion hosted by the Terry County Pioneers Assn will be held August 28 at the American Legion building. Eligibility covers residents of the county 40 years or longer. Malcolm Thomason chairs the group and aims for a turnout larger than last year’s 300. Registration opens at 9 a.m. with a noon basket lunch and a 2 p.m. business session, concluding around 4 p.m. J B Huckabee, Roy Collier, Casey Jones lead the food and entertainment efforts respectively. other active members include Mrs A J Bedell, Judge RA Simms and Ralph Bynum.

Sidewalk Sale Expected To Beat Last Year

Plans for the annual Sidewalk Sale near the Courthouse are nearly complete with participation steady and merchants paying $10 each. The Chamber of Commerce nears break even as booths line the area and civic groups run food stands. Three $100 gift certificates will be drawn during the event.

Ronnie Shepherd 19 son of Mr and Mrs Nathan Shepherd 307 FE Buckley Brownfield dies after 630 pm auto crash between Stamford and Old Glory. Burial at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Rev Ed Crow officiating at First Baptist Church. Terri Hughes Avoca remains in serious condition in Stamford Hospital. Shepherd born Jan 31 1946 in Nolan County moved to Brownfield from Snyder five years ago.
