As of Tuesday afternoon 285 voters had cast early ballots at the county clerk's office. A Saturday crash on U.S. Highway 385, 1.8 miles north of Brownfield, killed three people and injured two others. Crane couple Herbert Currie and Dorothy Currie died at the scene and Brownfield resident Delbi Green was treated for minor injuries. Amy Jo Pilmer, 17, was airlifted to Lubbock Methodist in satisfactory condition while Currie’s widow died later. The crash involved a dirt-road turn into the highway, a fire in a motorhome, and a head-on collision with a suburban. the investigation continues.
Brownfield’s Spirit of the Plains band welcomes Richard Herrera as director guiding a 3A program toward defending the Class AAA state marching title this fall. Herrera cites four D’s discipline desire dedication and plans to boost enrollment as about 150 students start summer band amid a tradition of strong band town support.
