Two New Councilmen and Mayor Sworn In

Bill Noble and Joe Christian were sworn in as city councilmen alongside Mayor C E Ross at the city council meeting. Geron swore them in after Ross was re-elected. Lakely Lindsey and Speedy Lindsey left two terms.

Elam Elected Rotary President in Brownfield Club

Harry Elam was elected president of the Brownfield Rotary Club at noon Friday. Officers named for the year include Mack Ross, first vice president. Dr. FE Posey, second vice president. and Dale Durham, secretary-treasurer. The auction project Lucky Friday the Thirteenth will be May 13 at 4 p.m. at the old Discount Center. Dale Durham chairs the sale with committee members Paul Risser, Newell Reed, Joe Price, John Kendrick, Tom Wallace, and Jack Garrett.

School Bands In Annual Concert

An appreciative audience heard Brownfield School bands in the annual Spring concert. Sixth grade bands from Oak Grove West Ward and Colonial Heights opened, then seventh and eighth grade bands, and finally Brownfield High School Band under Fred Smith. Senior pins were presented to Tim Faulkenberry Kay Price Linda Odom Kathleen Rhinehart Lynne Smith Kathy Goodpasture Beth McCarley Jean Hill Doyle Parker and Penney Knox. Junior High bands traveled to Odessa for UIL contest while high school members head to Corpus Christi for a band festival, returning Friday night.

Siebert Leads South Plains Economic Survey Meeting

John Siebert an Extension Service farm management specialist in Lubbock conducted an Economic Survey meeting at 9 30 a m in the Chamber of Commerce building. The session followed a mailed questionnaire effort to county agents and included Jim Foy and Richard Spencer among attendees. Major topics were cost price squeeze water problems and government control with emphasis on creating new markets and crops for the area.

Brownfield FFA lands first in state land judging

Brownfield Chapter FFA wins first in the state land judging contest in Stephenville with a 604 team score the highest ever at state level. Jimmy Blocker leads with 220 points earning a TT scholarship and belt buckle. {other members listed} 188 boys from 47 teams competed. team heads to national contest in Oklahoma City with coach Stanley Dixon and Texas Tech student teacher.

Terry County Commissioners Court will convene at 10 a.m. Monday in the district courtroom with Judge R. A. Simms presiding. The agenda will be presented to the commissioners during the session.

Lions Club Holds Regular Session With Guests

The Brownfield Lions Club met at noon Wednesday with 59 members present including William Rule Lyman Phelps Houston Stevens and John Lyle as guests. The Darkroom Three-O performed folk songs and two new admissions were discussed for the Summer Crippled Children’s Camp. Ladies Night and officer installation were scheduled for June 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Official Holidays Set By Committee

The Retail Committee of the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce approved five official holidays for closing this year. New Year's Day Memorial Day May 30 Independence Day July 4 Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day December 25. Christmas closing extended to December 25-26 due to the Sunday holiday. The next holiday is Memorial Day with a long weekend.

Brownfield School Trustees Schedule Regular Meeting

Brownfield School Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 30 p m Monday in the high school library with Paul Farrar presiding. Dr O R Douglas Holland Evans and Dr E B Posey will report on the superintendent business enrollment and Headstart progress. Senate Bill 130 TB eradication will be discussed and contracts for attorneys reviewed.

Democratic Women of Terry County Meet for Last Preprimary Session

The Democratic Women of Terry County will meet at 7 30 p m Monday in the Gillham Room of Brownfield Savings and Loan Association. All Democratic women are urged to attend as this is the last meeting before the May primaries. Date for the Jesse George reception is May 16 with Speaker Ben Barnes as a special guest. Rainfall to Persist in Terry County April Showers

Weather notes predict continued rain in Terry County as April totals inch up to about a half inch from showers Thursday night through Friday. A second shower added 0.3 inch, bringing the county total to 0.53 inch. Fog and light mist welcomed Saturday morning with forecasts of more rain through midweek.
