Terry County Faces Democratic Republican Primaries Nearing
In ten days the first round of voting ends as Terry County joins Texas in Democratic and Republican primaries. Absentee voting runs until April 29 at the county clerk’s office, with 56 ballots cast by Tuesday morning, 51 Democratic and five Republican. Republican governor candidates include Kent Hance Bill Clements and Tom Loeffler. Democratic governor candidates include Mark White and five others. U.S. House Democratic primary contenders are Mary Nell Mathis and Gerald McCathern.

Through April 1986 Brownfield reports a year to date one percent sales tax rebate of 151,370 dollars, about 13,000 less than the 164,186 dollars for the first four months of 1985. April 1986 declined to 21,443 from 29,457 in 1985 as statewide checks totaled 90.6 million to 1,015 cities led by Houston at 8.7 million.
